Penguin By Design by Phil Baines

I'm at a point where I'm running out of space, so I'm much more selective about the books I purchase. For it to actually end up on my shelf, a book needs to look good--to be beautiful to behold, to make me want to pick it up and look at it at random, to be an objet d'art. Thus, a tribute to the beautiful book covers designed by Penguin over the years seemed the perfect inaugural post on this blog. And I'm not just saying that because I work for Penguin. The fact that I wish I had a book called Applied Geography (see below) is a pretty convincing testament to its well-designed cover.
